A classic example of how documentaries often can take their makers down unexpected paths, Searching for Eddie Running Wolf is a wayward but intriguing debut from multihyphenate director Thomas Hartmann. At once a road movie, an autobiographical chronicle of tricky family relations, an inquiry into artistic responsibility and — courtesy of one protracted and genuinely disturbing sequence that may be too much for some viewers to bear — a harrowing glimpse into mental illness, the film will spark debate and polarize opinions around the nonfiction festival circuit.

IMHO - Searching for Eddie Running Wolf – is one of the most powerful and interesting character studies – in real time – that perhaps has ever been assembled, compiled and presented in a documented cinematic fashion. This opinion is from someone whom is a proponent of film, art and independent thinking. I would like to personally thank the Hartmann family, Eddie Running Wolf , Eddie’s sons, Melissa and the Denton based Thin Line Film Fest for bringing this work to the world and its my sincere hope that this film is picked up for distribution so that the following opinion may either be validated or debunked. Armed with cameras and his parents’ RV, Hartmann invites us on a quest to Colorado, the home of the artist....Click to Read more...

This film is a bittersweet kind of crazy...
Searching for Eddie Running Wolf fails to tell the story it was originally supposed to tell, but it works so well as a study of art, friendship and family. At moments, it is warm -- humorous even. Other times, it's so shocking that it leaves viewers wondering "is this real life?"...Click to Read more...
